About the Author

Dale Bredesen, M.D., is internationally recognized as an expert in the mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. He graduated from Caltech, then earned his M.D. from Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. He served as chief resident in neurology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) before joining Nobel laureate Stanley Prusiner’s laboratory at UCSF as an NIH postdoctoral fellow. He held faculty positions at UCSF, UCLA, and the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Bredesen directed the Program on Aging at the Burnham Institute before coming to the Buck Institute in 1998 as its founding president and CEO. He is the chief medical officer of MPI Cognition.

My wife has been disconnected from reality for about six months now and I have been searching for solutions for her disconnect. She spaced out shortly after being put on antidepressant drug. She was also on cholesterol statin drugs.

While researching for myself to reverse type II diabetes I discovered ketosis which is a cure for many diseases and issues. I applied the Ketosis theory on my wife who is showing a remarkable comeback.

In my research I found information on Dr Bredesen and the work he is doing and wanted to send my wife to UCLA for some help.

I found an interview of Dr Bredesen and Bulletproof and discovered that he has put a book out. I purchased the book and I now have additional information that I can apply to aide in my wife's recovery.

For those with a family history of Alzheimers or who carry the APOe4 gene, this is a must-read. I have been doing this program for a year now and can attest to the fact that it WORKS! It's not easy at first, but over time the new habits in terms of diet, sleep, exercise, reducing stress, taking supplements etc. become second nature. If you take this seriously and follow your protocol, you should notice improvements in 3-6 months. The chapters detailing the science involved in developing this program are a bit dense, but feel free to skim. The rest is much easier and imminently interesting and helpful. This book is a lifesaver.

My wife was diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment while a member of the Kaiser network. They did a few diagnostic tests, got a MOCA score on my wife of 19, got her driver's license revoked, and essentially said, "this is a terrible disease, there is nothing to be done for it, good luck".

None of the Bredesen Protocol is part of the Kaiser program, and the physicians we spoke with did not even know what a functional medicine physician is, but did not think that Kaiser had one.

Fortunately, we were able to qualify for a Bredesen Immersion program with Dr. Bredesen and a team he assembled of trained functional medicine physicians in March 2017. Subsequently, we are " all in" with the Bredesen protocol. It is not a diet, bit a complete lifestyle change. My wife' s symptoms have not progressed and in many areas have improved, just since April 2017. Yes, the program is challenging and has some expense associated with it, but compared to what? An Alzheimer's unit in a nursing home, not to mention the emotional toll on everyone - does this seem like an easier and cheaper alternative to anyone?
