About the Author

Dr. Richard Jacoby is one of the country's leading peripheral nerve surgeons. He practices in Scottsdale, Arizona, and specializes in the treatment of peripheral neuropathy. He is one of the cofounders of the Scottsdale Healthcare Wound Management Center and is the former president of the Arizona Podiatry Association and the Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Sur-gery and is a member of the American Podiatry Association, the Arizona Podiatry Association, and the Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons. He lives in Scottsdale with his wife and two children.

About the Reviews

This is a must-read for anybody who is serious about their health. Sugar is addictive - some including the author Jacoby say as bad if not worse than cocaine. He brilliantly details the effects of sugar addiction especially as far as Type 2 Diabetes and inflammation, particularly of the nerves is concerned. In fact, sugar has a negative effect on us if we eat it, full stop! He stresses how many processed foods are full of sugar which we must consider if we are serious about knocking it out of our diets. We all know - or should know! - the foods that are sugar-laden, like soft drinks, cakes etc., but others that appear innocuous (and which are very often savoury) are also very dangerous. This book is not a medical textbook and is easy for the layman to understand. I would highly recommend it.

This book was very informative and easy to read. I liked that it was actually written by a practicing podiatrist who has the unfortunate job of amputating people's feet and legs due to diabetes. He's pretty straightforward in saying that if you continue to eat sugar, he'll likely be taking drastic measures to save your life. He doesn't say this in a threatening way - it's just factual. He also does NOT want to amputate extremities. He gives good, down to earth information and advice. Some of it many people will already know, but reading it from his point of view gives a new perspective. He also discusses how many cases of diabetes can be reversed. If you think you can't live without a sugar fix, read this book.

Oh my. This book is a shocker... in a good way. Prior to reading this, I had no idea of the early warning signs of type 2 diabetes or that the inflammation which casues it is also thought to be the cause of many cases of dementia or alzheimer's. I hadn't realized how much damage wheat does. Within a week of stopping eating wheat I found that my left knee, which hurt on occasion going up and down the stairs has completely stopped hurting. I told my sister about it, and she tried it and found that her feet that had been causing her a significant problem stopped hurtiung and she was able to go out for walks again and wear shoes that she had problems with before. I told a friend about it and she found that her RSI improved significantly when she stopped eating foods advertised as 'Gluten Free'. I learned you can't substitute gluten free products for wheat based products, as ironically these are as bad (if not worse) than eating the gluten in the first place. I could go on and on about this book. Read it. It genuinely could change your life, especially if you are living in pain right now.
