Excellent resource! Very practical and inspirational information. And for the people who say that this is a giant infomercial, they're missing the gist of it. The idea is that there are things you can do to improve your life. You can start now. You could improve your sleep, and start to exercise. You can put better foods into your body. You can improve your moods. Taking better care of yourself will improve your relationships. The idea behind the book is that you can take control of your neurological health, improve current conditions, and prevent future neurological issues. There is science to back this up. In doing so, you'll likely improve your health, your longevity, the quality of your life. You don't have to buy Dr. A's supplements. Fish oil and phosphotidyl choline and B vitamins and such are all available from a variety of sources.

I have used this book with a young client. He's very bright. As he enters middle school, he has gobbled up this book like you wouldn't believe! This book is empowering him to make smarter choices about what he eats, how he engages with others, what he does when he has negative thoughts. I appreciate that there are resources like this to empower not only adults, but also young people. People need to know that they can make lasting and significant changes to their health! Love this book, have given it out as gifts often! I’m a new therapist and it helps me understand diagnosis and the brain in easy terms, plus I love that it has vitamins and supplement recommendations instead of just medications. I’ve tried different supplements from Dr. Amen and they are good, you just have to take so many pills, and I can search and find good supplements equivalent somewhat on Amazon too that aren’t as expensive. I suffer from several problems and every time I take some medication it has a side effect of making something else worse, the supplements don’t. I actually have given this book to people who don’t want to be on meds, and they understand that sometimes they need something in order to change, why therapy alone doesn’t solve all issues, that a combination is best whether your taking meds or supplements. And helps put in perspective that genetics and trauma actually do affect the brain and shows the profound affect in pictures. My daughter has Tourette’s and meds make other co-morbids worse so we’re going the supplement route to see if we can lessen symptoms without medications. I wish they took insurance and weren’t so far away and so expensive because I would have my whole family’s brains scanned. I’ve attended a lot of trainings recently for kids with attachment, ptsd, autism, depression, adhd, and anxiety among other things, difficulties and they all point back to Dr. Amen’s work with spect scans to help show the profound affects these mental health issues have on the brain.

This book covers many facets of brain health & function. It is an invaluable resource for anyone suffering from depression, anxiety, addictions, anger issues, & more. It covers the regions of the brain, what the function is, suggestions for improving each, helpful supplements & some medications. It is a valuable resource book that can be referred back to as life events & people change. Dr. Amen (author) is probably 1 of the world's best researchers & doctor. He has had several wonderful programs on PBS, where you can purchase his materials (by way of supporting your local station).
