Target Corp. TGT, -0.66% said Tuesday that it plans to hire 130,000 seasonal workers for the holidays up from 120,000 last year. Target will double the number of workers who fulfill online orders from stores. About 125,000 hires will be in stores and 8,000 will be in fulfillment and distribution centers. Existing staff will also be offered additional hours. Seasonal hires will earn $13 per hour, Target's minimum wage as of June 2019. Target will pay a $15 per hour by the end of 2020. All workers, including seasonal hires, will also get other perks like a 10% discount online and in stores and the chance to earn holiday pay on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Of the 2018 seasonal hires, Target says that more than 40% still worked for the company after the holidays were over. Target will host two hiring events, one from October 11 through October 13 and another on November 2 and November 3. Target stock has rallied 63.3% for the year to date while the S&P 500 index SPX, -0.61% is up 18.8% for the period.
