Texas softball pitcher Miranda Elish was taken to the hospital Friday night after a freak accident during a NCAA Division I Super Regional game against Alabama.

During the second inning in Tuscaloosa, Alabama's Elissa Brown hit a chopper in front of the plate and Texas catcher Mary Iakopo threw to second base to try to get a forceout.

But Elish was in the way, and the ball hit her square in the face. She collapsed and stayed down on the ground as teammates checked on her. An ambulance arrived and she taken off on a stretcher and to the emergency room as a precaution.

Texas tweeted during the third inning that Elish was doing fine at the hospital.

"Everything seems to be OK," Texas coach Mike White said later on the ESPN broadcast. "She's hurting a little bit, but she's in good spirits."
