Feb. 26, 2021 -- A panel of federal advisers on Friday lent their support to authorization for Janssen/Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine.
The FDA is expected to quickly provide an emergency use authorization for the vaccine following the panel’s recommendation. That could happen as early as this evening.
The Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee voted 22-0 on this question: Based on the totality of scientific evidence available, do the benefits of the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine outweigh its risks for use in individuals 18 years of age and older?
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine only requires one dose, unlike the two-dose vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer. And unlike those two, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine may be stored at regular refrigerator temperatures.
It can be stored for at least 3 months at normal refrigerator temperatures of 2° C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F).
