In Part 1 and Part 2 of this interview series with the explorer Victor Vescovo, we discussed his recent record-setting dive to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean. It was part of Vescovo’s Five Oceans project where visits to the bottom of all five of the world’s oceans is planned. With the Pacific dive, Vescovo has now been to the bottom of four oceans, with the just the Arctic Ocean remaining. He plans to do that later this year. Following are more edited excerpts from our interview with Vescovo.

Jim Clash: Where are you from?

Victor Vescovo: I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, a huge Cowboys fan – Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, all of the crew.

Clash: How did you raise money to do the Five Oceans project? It’s reported to have cost around $50 million.
